2010 Dynasty Sleepers

Published by Oasis Staff On January - 27 - 2010

For people looking feed their year-round fantasy addiction, there’s no better league than a Dynasty. With virtually no offseason, owners must always be looking ahead. As such, here’s a preliminary look at players who could see their values skyrocket before the start of next season.

Quarterback

Bruce Gradkowski (Raiders) – If Tom Cable is retained as head coach of the Raiders, it is clear his preference at the quarterback position is Gradkowski. With so much young talent at the skill positions, Gradkowski’s statistics should increase in 2010.

Tarvaris Jackson (Vikings) – Despite a lackluster performance in his first two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Brad Childress appears committed to Jackson and with the 2009 emergence of Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin, Jackson has never had more tools to succeed if Brett Favre chooses to retire.

Running Back

Arian Foster (Texans) – In the team’s final two games, Foster was entrusted as the team’s tailback and impressed with 232 yards and 3 touchdowns. Unless the Texans spend an early pick at running back, look for Foster to excel as a possible flex option next year.

Gartrell Johnson (Giants) – Johnson is another young back who could be an injury away from starting next year. With Ahmad Bradshaw injured and Brandon Jacobs notoriously injury-prone during his career, Johnson is a player who could drastically outperform his current expectations.

Jalene Parmele (Ravens) – The endorsement for Parmele may be a bit premature, but the former Toledo standout could be Ray Rice’s primary backup next season if McGahee is let go. In dynasty leagues with deep benches, Parmele is a smart addition.

Tyrelle Sutton (Panthers) – Available in nearly all leagues, Sutton is a phenomenal stash in deep dynasty leagues. With rumors circulating of the Panthers possibly trading away DeAngelo Williams to address team needs or acquire a first round pick in the draft (they traded this year’s for the rights to Everette Brown), Sutton would be a Jonathon Stewart injury away from the leading back for the run-heavy Panthers. I like those odds.

Wide Receiver

Davone Bess (Dolphins) – With Chad Henne under center, Bess led the Dolphins’ receiving corps with 758 yards. In addition, Bess was the NFL’s second-most productive receiver on third downs last season, converting on roughly eighty percent of his catches. As the go-to wide receiver in Miami, Bess should see an increase in production as he and Henne mature.

Chaz Schilens (Raiders) – Injured for the first half of the season, Schilens averaged the most points-per-game of any Raiders receiver once he returned to the field and was the 38th ranked WR during that span, making him a viable WR4. After an offseason with Gradkowski, Schilens could be a starting fantasy wide receiver at only 24 years old.

Devin Thomas (Redskins) – There comes a time when low risk meets high reward, and I believe that to be the case with Thomas. With Shanahan in office, the offense should see improved production and with Santana Moss slowing down due to age, third year wide receivers Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly will get their chances to succeed. Of the two, I prefer Thomas. If he is going to breakout and become a legitimate receiver in the NFL, 2010 will be his season to do it.

Demetrius Williams (Ravens) – Another injury-ridden wide receiver who could be a stud if he stayed healthy. As a deep threat in the Ravens offense, Williams has the potential for some big games. With Flacco’s emergence at quarterback and the potential re-retirement of Derrick Mason, Williams could see a dramatic improvement in his statistics if he can stay on the field next season.

Tight End

Dante Rosario (Panthers) – All the ingredients are in place for Rosario to break out. He likely will have an inexperienced quarterback in 2010 in Matt Moore, who should be looking for safe underneath passes often. As a result, Rosario should see more catches and yards. Yet the most appealing aspect of Rosario’s game is his height. At 6’ 4”, Rosario makes for a great red zone target. With catches, yards, and touchdowns on the rise, Rosario lucks out further with the Panthers playing the 6th easiest schedule in 2010. Rosario finished the season as the 25th best tight end but is 25 and has enough upside to roster as a backup tight end.

Dave Thomas (Saints) – How can you not like the backup tight end for an injury-prone player on the NFL’s best offense? If anything should happen to Shockey, Thomas is established as the Saints’ number two tight end and already sees the field often as a great blocker. If he can improve his receiving skills, Thomas could surprise next year for the Saints.
