Ndamukong Suh falls to #3 in the Oasis Mock Draft

With 20 teams now at home and enjoying the off-season, their fans turn towards the next premier football event: the NFL draft. Free agency beings at the start of March, but given the state of the NFL, that is merely a chance to fix leaks on your roster – the draft is where the core of a team is developed. Any Given Saturday will throw its hat in the ring with a mock draft since, well, everyone is doing it. As usual, it will be wildly off-base and April’s draft will look much different. Still, we trudge on.

1) St. Louis Rams: QB Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame

-This likely won’t sit well with Rams fans, who will want to grab Ndamukong Suh and shore up their defense, pairing him with former #2 overall pick Chris Long. Suh remains an option, but the Rams are going to have to address their quarterback situation at some point and Clausen gets high marks from scouts who often compare him to Aaron Rodgers. Marc Bulger has been beaten into the ground the past few years and every-time he drops back in the pocket these days he looks like a new-born fawn taking its first steps on planet earth. Kyle Boller and Keith Null aren’t the answer either. Clausen comes from a pro-style offense and has adequate tools, making him the top quarterback on most people’s boards and a likely pick for the quarterback-hungry Rams.

2) Detroit Lions: OT Russell Okung, Oklahoma State

- The Lions strictly followed their board last year, always opting for the best player as opposed to lending credence to positional value. If they go that route again, Ndamukong Suh could well be the pick, but after seeing Matthew Stafford routinely get thrown into the turf the Lions may opt to invest in some offensive line help. Detroit’s major issues on the line are at guard, but Jeff Backus has never exactly been an impediment to defensive ends – merely more of an inconvenience as they tossed him out of their way. Okung may not be an elite tackle prospect but he is the best one on the board and would go a long way towards rounding out that offense. Keeping Stafford healthy has to be priority number one and Okung would help immensely.
