The seemingly annual saga of the “will he” or “won’t he” Brett Favre retirement masquarade has once again reared its ugly head in the world of the football faithful.

Favre’s overdramatic ordeal began early in the off-season this year, as he asked for, and was granted, his release from the New York Jets after they drafted first-round Quarterback and future face of the franchise Mark Sanchez.

Favre’s release led to immediate and rampant speculation that he would then complete this final cycle of his career and come full-circle by signing a one-day contract with the Green Bay Packers that would allow him to retire under the cloak of green and gold where his illustrious and storied career rightly belongs.

When this reunion between Favre and the Packers failed to materialize however, daily reports regarding Favre’s workout schedule, his current injury status, and the extent of his contact with the Minnesota Vikings organization inundated the airwaves, causing yet another Favre media-frenzy to begin anew.

Now, the possibility of a second Favre sequel and another new chapter in the career of this timeless old Quarterback with a penchant for the dramatic seems even more likely.

Motivated by a fierce competitive drive and a begrudging willingness to enact any form of retribution possible on the Green Bay franchise that spurned him, while also reinforcing his self-perceived sense of value and worth, Favre’s only current obstacle to yet another year in pads seems to be the health of his 39 year-old shoulder.

For if his body is willing, Favre’s spirit seems more than ready to suit up in the hated purple of Green Bay’s division rival Vikings so that he might have the opportunity to confront his former protege and his former franchise face-to-face on the field of play.

How this long-standing and repetitive soap opera finally plays out is still anybody’s guess, but one thing’s for certain:  The stage is set, the curtain’s drawn, the paparazzi are assembled.  All that’s left to do now is wait with baited breath for yet another final act from Favre.
